Introduction
My name is Spencer Sawyer and I graduated from UC Davis with a degree in both mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering in December of 2019. As a part of my studies I completed many projects, mostly as a part of a team. This website serves as a portfolio highlighting those projects.
As a student I focused my efforts on 3D design work in SolidWorks as well as structural analysis and FEM on various structures with an emphasis on aircraft. I thrive as a part of a team, as the president of the Men’s Ultimate Frisbee team at UC Davis we were able to double the amount of funds raised over the previous years, as a safety inspector with CollegeWorks painting I was able to hold injuries and EPA incidents to zero over the entire season in the second largest region of the company through team work and communication. Also with CollegeWorks as a painter and later a crew chief I was a part of the highest producing single crew in the region and later became the crew that was called in when something went wrong to ensure a smooth finish on difficult jobs. This is all combined with years of customer service experience in both food service and member services, working as a team every day to ensure smooth execution during shifts. These experiences aided me in my studies with team work and a proactive attitude to get things done as efficiently and as well as possible. This portfolio serves to show my academic accomplishments in the projects completed as a part of my education to supplement my work history in various different industries which lends me a very unique skill set.
In my free time I continue to be a very project oriented person. I have been working with my hands in my free time for as long as I can remember. Hobby welding, carving and tattoo design are just a small number of the things I do to stay busy in my off time. Most of my projects revolve around cooking as well as minimizing costs anywhere possible, I recently welded together a smoking chest out of scrap metal found around Davis and am currently designing a brick oven that can be constructed for the lowest cost possible. Other ideas currently floating around are a hand built propane forge for basic blacksmithing and some garden renovations. I am a firm proponent on no waste cooking and living and recently discovered an almond tree in my backyard and have been experimenting with fermenting and pickling green almonds with various products from my garden and trees around my backyard. It creates a necessity for ingenuity, working on a budget while creating high functioning equipment and good food with unwanted materials.
